The Assocation for Cancer Online Resources, or ACOR, hosts e-mail discussion lists for a wide variety of cancers.
One of the lists ACOR hosts is the EC-Group, or the esophageal cancer discussion list.
Founded in 1995 as an informal e-mail exchange between a handful of people dealing with EC, the list went online on February 14, 1996.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE...
..the EC-Group currently has
more than2,000 subscribers!
Subscription to the EC-Group is free.
Member Nancy Westacott posted this response to someone considering leaving the EC-Group after they lost their partner.
Since this is an e-mail list, communication between subscribers is only through e-mail correspondence.
Any mail that is sent to the EC-Group e-mail address is collected by the ACOR listserv software and then distributed to all of those subscribed to the list.
To subscribe to the EC-Group, please fill in the information below —or— go to:
http://listserv.acor.org/
archives/ec-group.html
After the automated software accepts your subscription, you will receive a welcome message and you will also be able to send e-mail to the list.
You will not be able to post until you receive confirmation from the EC-Group listserv.
If you have any problems subscribing or have any further questions, please contact the list owners.

If you or a loved one suffer from a rare condition you should not consider any wikipedia article to be an inclusive source of information regarding that condition. Due to the strict editing guidelines of wikipedia, some of the most useful sources of hard to find information regarding your condition, including all patient communities [like ACOR], cannot be mentioned in any article. In conclusion, wikipedia articles should be neither the first nor the principal source of information to give to a newly diagnosed patient, since wikipedia doesn't accept, in principle, mention of any patient-generated information because that information is not considered "authoritative".

Sending a message to the EC-Group is as easy as sending an e-mail message to anyone else. The address is:
e-mail should be sent as plain text, rather than html. Your e-mail software has a setting for this, so please check this before posting.
Attachments are not allowed, and the length of an individual message should be under 500 lines.
If your e-mail software automatically quotes the contents of the message you are replying to, please remove all but any relevant parts.
There are two formats for delivery:
Daily digest, sent once per day, which contains all of the day's e-mail. This is the default format for all new subscribers.
Individual posts, sent throughout the day, each message received by the listserv is sent as soon as it is received.
You can change your subscription format, turn mail from the list on or off, and unsubscribe by sending an e-mail to the ACOR listserv at:
The e-mail MUST come from the e-mail address you subscribed under! If you can no longer send from that address, contact an EC-group list owner.
The e-mail subject is ignored.
The e-mail body should contain only commands for the listserv. Some useful commands are:
set ec-group nodigest
Changes delivery format to individual posts.set ec-group digest
Changes delivery format to daily digest.set ec-group nomail
Turns off e-mail from the ec-group. Useful if you will be away for a while but do not want to cancel your subscription.set ec-group mail
Turns ec-group e-mail back on.unsubscribe ec-group
Cancels your subscription to the list.
The EC-Group archives contain a wealth of esophageal cancer information and is easily searchable by name or topic. Accessing the archives can be a bit tricky for the newcomer. Hopefully these instructions will help you get into the archives.
